Prototype: Mobile Application for Virtual K-12 Parents

Background:

After completing employee interviews at a public K-12 virtual school, one common barrier mentioned was parental access to their school Learning Coach account. Although student's were provided with a laptop upon enrollment, most legal guardians have primarily reported using their cellphone to access the internet. Parents attempting to access their Learning Coach account from a mobile device experienced issues with viewing and navigating.

Solution Developed:

Having a mobile application for parents to access their Learning Coach account and formatted for mobile devices would help facilitate successful and increased parental login's to their learning coach account. The prototype displays a proposed layout incorporating feedback from staff members along with a user-friendly interface for parents to navigate.

Travel to Japan Virtual Tour

Travel to Japan Virtual Field Trip

Background:

A one hour interactive virtual field trip event for Middle and High school student's at a public charter school. 

Solution Developed:

A presentation using Google Slides were created inspired by a real travel itinerary designed for a 12 day trip to Japan. YouTube video clips along with Google Earth views are incorporated throughout presentation and listed within the Travel to Japan Presenter's Guide.

Infographic How to Succeed in Cyber School

Background:

Students and families transitioning to the online learning environment from a traditional setting experience experience a period of transition. The info-graphic contains helpful reminders for new virtual students following orientation. The three key's to success highlighted to provide new families with a condensed visual aid to refer to during the initial transition to virtual learning.  

Solution Developed:

Developing a colorful and attention grabbing info-graphic that contains all pertinent information in one place. Families and students can save the info graphic on their desktops for quick reference. Info-graphic may also be printed out and displayed based on user-preference.

Background:

A one hour interactive virtual field trip event for Middle and High school student's at a public charter school. 

Solution Developed:

This presenter's guide was developed to accompany the Travel to Japan Virtual Field Trip slides. The presenter's guide contains suggested dialogue to describe each slide, indicated by number. Slides containing external links to videos, google earth views or photos are included with guidelines on when to present example content.

Jalaiah Harmon

Social Media & Plagiarism

Background:

Plagiarism is not always black and white and not always considered illegal. This mini session explores plagiarism as it related to social media content creation. The example of a young unknown content creator is portrayed through 

The story of a 12 year old aspiring dancer is uncovered as social media influencers go viral and receive credit for her choreography, the viral Renegade Dance.  

Solution Developed:

To help explore the depth of plagiarism and tap into student's empathy and critical thinking skills, a short presentation was developed using Google Slides. The presentation introduces the story of Jalaiah Harmon and reviews the official definition of plagiarism. Thought-provoking questions are included for students to consider as they learn more about Jalaiah's story.

What is Cultural Literacy E-Learning

Background:

A request was made to create an e-learning series to help explore and promote the different types of literacy in existence to staff members working at a public school. Staff members were asked to complete a survey to uncover their knowledge of the different forms of literacy. The survey data revealed that staff members identified cultural literacy as being the one they had least knowledge of. 

Solution Developed:

An e-learning instruction about cultural literacy was developed using Canva and Powerpoint.
